Sultan Gyros Grill at 4222 University Way NE is a straightforward Mediterranean spot that fits neatly into Seattle’s University District dining scene. It’s a casual eatery where quick, hearty meals come with a side of no-frills service and a relaxed vibe, popular with nearby students, locals grabbing a convenient lunch, and anyone on the hunt for solid, affordable gyro and shawarma plates.

The restaurant’s crowd tends to favor the traditional Mediterranean staples done simply but with noticeable care. Their chicken gyro sandwich, lamb gyros platter, and shawarma options are the staples—these dishes show up regularly for those hungry enough to seek out something filling after class, work, or a nearby night out. From the fresh, soft pita bread to the variety of skewer-based plates like the chicken kebab or Sultan dinner platter, portions are generous and often coming at a price point that keeps the place busy throughout the day.

Atmosphere-wise, Sultan Gyros Grill doesn’t fuss much with décor or ambiance; the focus is clearly on speedy service and straightforward meals. Expect a no-overwhelm environment with friendly but casual staff, who fall just short of polished but are welcoming enough to keep regulars coming back. It’s the kind of place where you can pop in solo or with friends after a concert or a long day downtown without worrying about a wait or formal dining experience.

The neighborhood setting means you’ll often find a mix of students, local workers, and families, especially during lunch and early evening. It’s best visited when you want a reliably filling meal without the pretense—think comfortable hunger satisfaction rather than a slow, sit-down dinner. Some diners have noted moments where the cleanliness cannot be overlooked, suggesting a quick glance around before settling in might be wise if that’s a concern for you.

For those who have tried the lamb gyro platter, it frequently ranks highly for authenticity and flavor, rivaling some experiences from trips to Greece. Chicken shawarma options also earn consistent praise for fresh ingredients and flavorful sauces, making the place a dependable stop for Mediterranean comfort food in this part of Seattle. However, occasional inconsistency in dishes like the lamb shawarma has been noted, so it might be worth sticking to customer favorites.

If you’re in the University District looking for a modest, affordable Mediterranean meal that hits the spot without fuss, Sultan Gyros Grill is a practical choice. It’s not where you come for atmosphere or upscale dining, but more for a solid, quick bite packed with familiar flavors and local neighborhood charm.

No over exaggeration, this was the BEST lamb gyro platter I’ve ever had. And I’ve been to Greece. The meat is fresh and hot, perfect portions, fantastic price, you can tell it is a family business which I love. I’m only in town for work, but if I’m ever back I would come here again without question!

I had the lamb shawarma, honestly not the best I had better, but if you are in the area and you are hungry works.

Our friend reccomended this place after a concert and it seriously hit the spot! The prices are reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get. I got the chicken scharwma which was just so delicious, the pita was soft, the vegetables were fresh, the sauce was so good! Loved it!

I got the 19 shawarma and it was packed with flavors. Taste was on point and it’s affordable. But I found two strands of hair on my first bite which I should’ve seen coming since the place isn’t exactly clean.

Sultan Gyros is amazing. They are always chill, friendly dudes, the food is fire, and the prices aren't terrible. I wish I still lived down the street but weve made the 1hr+ drive a couple times. We have been trying to find a replacement but nothing compares. At this point we have wasted so much money on mediocre greek/Arabic restaurants just to be disappointed!

I wish I had discovered this Shawarma spot long ago! This is easily one of the best Shawarmas I’ve had. I tried both the Arabic Shawarma and the regular chicken Shawarma, and they were both great—but the Arabic Shawarma is incredibly close to the authentic taste. The Saj bread takes it to another level! Maybe the Arabic Shawarma without onions would make it absolutely perfect, but overall, it’s amazing. I visit all the way from Everett just for this, and it’s totally worth it. A must-try spot, and I’ll definitely be recommending it to friends!

First, the sandwich. The outside pita bread was really well toasted, and had serious weight to it - it was pretty dense. I found that this added a really great outer layer to each bite of the Gyro wrap The lamb and beef were quite plentiful - even to the point where they would often spill out of the sandwich. The portion size was pretty impressive I also really liked the way these tasted - they were quite flavorful - and not overcooked at all - rather quite juicy when you bit into them The vegetables were also good - what I would say is a bit more diversity in vegetables (eg: adding black olives, mushrooms, etc..) as this mostly just consisted of lettuce and a few onions thrown in. Also probably less vegetables in general would be better I loved the white sauce in this - it mixed so well with everything else - coating the pita, vegetables, and especially the lamb and beef in a beautiful outer layer This is what really elevated the sandwich as a whole Additionally, for the relatively low price point, this sandwich was actually pretty large - something that was impressive I do wish the wrap stayed together a bit more, however - as stuff was constantly falling out and I would have to put it back in. This is where the increased amount of lettuce didn't help the experience Now, let's get to the real star of this order - the Greek Fries There are words to describe these - but I'm not sure I have the vocabulary All I can say is that I haven't had Greek Fries even close to this before - as a matter of fact - I haven't had any french fries even close to this before A lot of people think Greek Fries are about the feta cheese you put on there. What Sultan's understands is that yes, the feta cheese is really important, which is why they have a ton of it on there However, what they also understand is the real key is the Tzatziki sauce - and the amount of it What good is Greek Fries if the cheese just falls through the fries? Or, what good is it if the sauce and cheese are just applied to the top layer of fries and all the remaining ones near the bottom remain dry? What truly makes these fries all-time is the amount of the sauce they use - what this does it a) allows the sauce to take over the entire box of fries and b) allows the cheese to really stick to the fries The amount of this sauce + cheese combination used means that even though at the start it's only applied to the fries at the top, while eating it flows down and fuses itself with all the fries at the bottom as well When I say coat the fries, that's an understatement. Each individual fry is absolutely smothered in this mixture - which is truly what makes these so incredibly good When I want Greek Fries, I don't want my fries to feel like they're dipped in the sauce. I want my fries to feel like they are the sauce - so the majority of the flavor comes from the sauce itself and not the fries. The fries should simply exist as a backbone - something to give texture. It should play a similar function to what the pita does in the Gyro Nowhere is that more present than in these fries - where each fry is practically drowning in the Tzatziki sauce + feta cheese combination You know there's a lot of sauce when after every fry, I have to lick my fingers clean of the sauce - and this still tasted amazing I don't know if I need to even mention this, but for the price point, these are also incredible as well Overall: A pretty-good wrap with all time fries delivers excellent results Classic Lamb & Beef Gyro: 8.15/10 Greek Fries: 10/10 Overall: 9.25/10
